Three signs in order: range keeps shrinking, the charger runs longer than it used to, and the cart sags on hills. But a failing charger or a corroded main cable produces the same symptoms, so each battery should be load-tested individually and the charger's output checked before anyone recommends a pack. Sometimes one bad battery is dragging down five good ones.

For a daily driver, often yes: 7 to 10 or more years of life, no watering, faster charging, and steady power to the last mile, at $1,600 to $3,500 installed. For a cart that goes out twice a week, a quality lead-acid pack at $1,200 to $1,800 usually wins the math. Work it out from your actual mileage, not a sales script.

Yes. Village ordinance section 71.17 requires current village-issued stickers on the front and rear of any cart operated on or alongside village streets. Registration is a one-time $20 fee at Village Hall, and you receive a map of restricted roads and crossing points. Carts may cross village streets without a sticker but not travel along them.

Any street posted over 35 mph, plus NC 211 and US 15-501 inside the corporate limits, which may only be crossed at signalized intersections. NC 5, NC 2, Morganton Road, Page Road, and Linden Road may be crossed directly but not driven along. The hospital district and Page Drive, Aviemore Drive, Memorial Drive, and Regional Drive are closed to carts entirely.

Only with lights that meet the ordinance: two front lamps (or a cart-specific halogen light bar) visible from 300 feet and two red rear lamps visible from 200 feet. Without them, operation is limited to daylight hours. Lighting can be installed or repaired to those specs.

Each is different. Whispering Pines has its own ordinance and a $15 three-year registration with proof of insurance. Southern Pines had no ordinance as of the Town Council's October 2025 discussion, when staff were mapping possible routes. We could not confirm a golf cart ordinance in Aberdeen or Carthage; without one, a standard cart stays on private property and community roads. Inside Seven Lakes, the landowner associations set the rules on their own roads.

Under G.S. 20-4.01, a golf cart cannot exceed 20 mph and a low-speed vehicle tops out between 20 and 25 mph. An LSV is a motor vehicle: G.S. 20-121.1 requires headlamps, stop lamps, turn signals, tail lamps, reflectors, parking brake, mirrors, windshield and wipers, speedometer, seat belts, and a VIN, plus DMV registration and insurance. A speed upgrade that pushes a cart past 20 mph changes its legal category.

Usually not. The click is the solenoid engaging; if the cart does not move, the solenoid contacts are often burned, or the pack cannot deliver current under load, or the controller is not getting a throttle signal. Solenoid replacement runs $100 to $250 installed and is a same-visit fix. Testing should come before replacing anything.

Not necessarily, and often not. A charger that will not turn on is frequently a charge-port fault, a blown fuse, or a pack so discharged the charger cannot detect it. Check the charger's output at the plug and the port for continuity before anyone talks about batteries. Charger repairs run $100 to $300; full replacement $300 to $800.

Hills load the pack harder than flat ground, and a weak battery in the string shows up first under that load. It can also be a corroded cable adding resistance, a worn motor brush, or a controller cutting back on heat. A load test with the pack under real draw tells which. The Sandhills' ridge-and-swale terrain makes this one of the most common problems.

Monthly from May through September, and every six to eight weeks the rest of the year. Use distilled water, fill only after a full charge, and cover the plates by about a quarter inch without overfilling. Heat is the driver: electrolyte evaporates fastest on the 90°F days that run from June into September.

Yes. Longleaf pine sheds pollen in early spring, and the yellow film settles onto battery tops and terminals. With humidity it becomes a mildly conductive paste that slowly self-discharges the pack and speeds corrosion. It also clogs charger vents and controller heat sinks. A spring battery-top wash and vent cleanout belongs in any tune-up.

Yes. Most carts in Moore County are electric, but gas carts get the same mobile service: starter-generators, belts, carburetors, fuel systems, plugs, and filters. A gas tune-up runs $150 to $300.

Carolina Lakes is a Harnett County community with Sanford mailing addresses, roughly 25 miles northeast of the village center in a straight line and farther by road, so it sits outside the usual Moore County area. Say where the cart is before booking and whether a trip charge applies. If the call is about a lithium conversion that stopped working after a home install, mention that too: the tech will want to check the charger profile, the battery management system and the main cable runs before anything else.
