Seven Lakes West operates separately across roughly 3,000 acres, built around Lake Auman, a 791-acre reservoir, and the Beacon Ridge Country Club, a Gene Hamm par-72 course that opened in 1989. Horse trails, a fitness center, pickleball courts, and walking paths run through all three.

The cart pattern follows the layout. Every one of these communities is built as a loop of internal roads around water and golf, and the cart is how residents cover them: to the marina, to the course, to the clubhouse, to a neighbor across the lake. The 1995 USDA soil survey for Moore County already listed Seven Lakes among the county’s residential and resort communities, and the cart-per-household count has only gone up since.

What Seven Lakes carts need

Miles, and hills. The loop around Lake Auman is long, and the terrain out here is the Sandhills’ ridge-and-swale country in full: the soil survey describes the Candor-Ailey-Vaucluse landscape as broad ridges separated by moderately steep side slopes, with grades to 25 percent. A cart that does a daily lake loop with a climb at the end works its pack harder than a cart on a flat golf course, and hills are where a weak battery in a six-battery string shows itself first. The rules out here

Seven Lakes is unincorporated, so there is no municipal golf cart ordinance. North Carolina law authorizes cities to permit carts on their streets under G.S. 160A-300.6, and towns like Pinehurst and Whispering Pines have; a county can do the same for its roads, but the practical rule inside Seven Lakes is set by the landowner associations for their own roads. Check your association’s guidelines for equipment, driver age, and hours. NC 211, the state highway connecting Seven Lakes to Pinehurst, is not a golf cart road under any rule: state law caps cart streets at 35 mph, and 211 runs faster than that.
